Umoja Coin Cookie Policy

1. About this Policy

1.1 This Website Cookie Policy (the “Policy”) explains how UmojaTech Inc., a sociedad anónima incorporated in the Republic of Panama under Folio 155783364 and a wholly owned subsidiary of Umoja Global Limited (London, United Kingdom) (“UmojaTech”, “we”, “us” or “our”), uses cookies and similar technologies on https://umojacoin.com and its subdomains (the “Website”).

1.2 It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, which ones we use, how long they last, who sets them and how you can control them. It forms part of our Website Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle the personal data that cookies collect, and our Website Terms of Use (Terms and Conditions).

1.3 This Policy covers the Website only. Umoja mobile apps and Products use software development kits (SDKs) and other technologies rather than browser cookies, and each Product explains its own tracking in its own documents.

1.4 This Policy is designed to meet the requirements of the EU ePrivacy Directive as implemented in EU member states, the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, the EU and UK GDPR, Panama’s Law 81 of 2019, the data protection laws of the African countries where we expect to operate, and US state privacy laws.

2. What cookies and similar technologies are

2.1  Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your browser or device when you visit it. They allow the website to recognise your browser on later page loads or visits, and to remember information such as your settings or whether you are signed in.

2.2  Similar technologies work in a comparable way. In this Policy, “cookies” includes all of them:

  • Local storage and session storage: browser storage that websites use to keep information on your device, often for longer than a session cookie.
  • Pixels, web beacons and tracking links: tiny images or unique links embedded in web pages or emails that tell the sender when a page or email has been opened or a link clicked.
  • Scripts and tags: pieces of code that run in your browser to provide features such as analytics, chat or security checks, and that may read or store information on your device.
  • SDKs: code used in mobile apps rather than websites; not used on the Website.

2.3  First-party and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are set by the Website itself (umojacoin.com). Third-party cookies are set by a different domain, usually a service provider whose tools we use on the Website, such as a security, analytics or live-chat provider.

2.4  Session and persistent cookies. Session cookies are deleted automatically when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device until they expire or you delete them.

2.5  What we do not use. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, cross-site tracking cookies, social media advertising pixels or device fingerprinting on the Website. We do not use cookies to sell or share personal data for advertising.

3. Why we use cookies

3.1  We use cookies to:

  • deliver the Website securely and reliably, and balance traffic across our servers;
  • protect the Website, our users and the Umoja Group against bots, attacks, fraud and abuse;
  • make sure forms, such as the waitlist and contact forms, can be submitted correctly and are protected against forgery;
  • remember your cookie choices so that we do not ask you on every page;
  • remember your preferences, such as language or region, if you accept preference cookies;
  • understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the Website so that we can improve it, if you accept analytics cookies; and
  • provide live chat and the help centre, if you accept customer-support cookies.

4. The categories of cookies we use

CategoryPurposeExamplesConsent needed?
Strictly necessaryEssential for the Website to work and be secure: session management, security tokens, load balancing, bot and abuse protection, form submission and storing your cookie choicesSession, CSRF, bot-management and consent cookiesNo. These are exempt from consent because they are strictly necessary to provide the service you request, or rely on our legitimate interest in security. They cannot be switched off in our banner, but you can block them in your browser
Functional / preferenceRemember choices you make, such as language or region, to give you a more personal experienceLanguage cookieYes
Analytics / performanceHelp us understand how visitors use the Website, which pages are popular and whether pages load and work properly, using aggregated statisticsGoogle Analytics 4 cookiesYes
Customer supportRun live chat and the help centre and keep a conversation going as you move between pagesLive-chat session cookiesYes

4.2 Where the law of your country allows an opt-out rather than an opt-in model for non-essential cookies, we may treat preference, analytics and customer-support cookies as opt-out there, and will honour any opt-out you exercise. Our default, everywhere, is opt-in.

4.3 Annex A lists each cookie we use, who sets it, its category, its purpose and how long it lasts.

5. How we ask for and record your consent

5.1  When you first visit the Website from a place that requires consent, we show a cookie banner before any non-essential cookies are set. The banner gives you equal and equally prominent options to:

  • accept all cookies;
  • reject all cookies other than strictly necessary cookies; or
  • customise your choices by category.

5.2  Non-essential cookies are not set, and the related scripts are not loaded, until you make a choice. If you close the banner without making a choice, only strictly necessary cookies are used.

5.3  Continuing to browse, scrolling or clicking elsewhere on the page is not treated as consent. Consent is given only by clicking “Accept all” or by choosing categories and saving your preferences.

5.4  We record your choice, the categories you accepted, the date and time, the version of this Policy shown and a randomly generated consent identifier. We keep this record to honour your choice and to show that we have complied with the law (see the retention period in Section 9).

5.5  We ask for your consent again when we make a material change to the cookies we use or their purposes, when your previous choice expires (no later than 12 months after it was given), or where the law requires.

5.6  Pre-ticked boxes, cookie walls that block access to the Website unless you accept non-essential cookies, and other techniques that pressure you into accepting are not used.

6. How to change your choices and control cookies

6.1  On the Website. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by clicking “Cookie preferences” in the footer of any page. Your new choice applies from then on; it does not affect the lawfulness of processing before you changed it. When you withdraw consent, we stop setting the relevant cookies and ask our providers to stop collecting data through them, but cookies already placed may remain on your device until they expire or you delete them.

6.2  Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. Where the law of your region treats a browser-sent opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control (GPC), as a valid request to opt out of sale, sharing or targeted advertising, we treat it as an opt-out of non-essential cookies for that browser, as far as our consent tool can detect it. Because we do not run advertising cookies or sell or share personal data, there is nothing further to opt out of in that respect. There is no common industry standard for “Do Not Track” signals, so we treat them in the same way as GPC where our consent tool can read them.

6.3  In your browser. Most browsers let you see, block and delete cookies, block third-party cookies, and receive a warning before a cookie is stored. The settings are usually found in the browser’s “Settings”, “Preferences” or “Privacy” menu. Annex B gives general guidance for common browsers. If you block all cookies, including strictly necessary cookies, parts of the Website, such as forms and live chat, may not work. We suggest using our cookie banner to manage non-essential cookies instead.

6.4  Google Analytics. In addition to our banner, you can stop Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits to any website by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

6.5  Mobile devices. Your mobile operating system may offer additional settings to limit tracking and reset advertising identifiers. These mainly affect apps rather than websites.

6.6  Effect of declining. Declining non-essential cookies does not stop you reading the Website, joining the waitlist or contacting us. It may mean that we cannot remember your preferences, that we cannot use analytics to improve the Website, and that live chat is unavailable. You can still reach us by email at support@umojacoin.com.

7. Cookies and tracking in our emails

7.1  Our emails may contain a small pixel or uniquely identified links that tell us whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We use this information, only where you have consented or where the law otherwise allows, to understand whether our emails are useful and to improve them.

7.2  You can prevent email tracking by unsubscribing, by setting your email program not to load images automatically, or by using your email provider’s privacy features. Service and security emails may still contain basic tracking needed to confirm delivery and prevent abuse.

8. Third-party cookies and embedded content

8.1  Some cookies on the Website are set by service providers that help us run it, such as our content delivery and security provider, our consent-management provider, our form provider, our analytics provider and our live-chat provider. These providers process the resulting data on our behalf and under contracts with us, and they may also be subject to their own privacy policies. They are not permitted to use data collected through our Website for their own advertising.

8.2  Some pages may embed or link to content from other websites, such as social media posts, videos or maps. When you view or interact with embedded content, the provider may set its own cookies and collect information about you, as if you had visited its website directly. We do not control these cookies. Where possible, we load embedded content only after you have accepted the relevant cookie category, and we show a placeholder until you do. Please read the provider’s own cookie and privacy policies.

8.3  Social media sharing buttons on the Website, if any, are simple links that do not set cookies until you click them.

9. How long cookies and related data last

9.1  Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies last for the period shown in Annex A. We set persistent cookies for no longer than 13 months, unless a shorter period is stated or the law allows a longer one.

9.2  Data collected through cookies is kept for the periods in Section 11 of our Website Privacy Policy. In particular, analytics data is kept at user level for no longer than 14 months, after which only aggregated reports are kept, and cookie consent records are kept for as long as the consent is relied on plus 2 years.

10. International transfers

10.1  Some providers that set cookies on the Website process data outside your country, including in the United States, the United Kingdom (where our parent company, Umoja Global Limited, is based) and the European Union. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we use the safeguards described in Section 10 of our Website Privacy Policy, such as standard contractual clauses and adequacy decisions.

11. Children

11.1  The Website is not directed to children, and the waitlist is for people aged 18 or over (or the age of majority in their country, if higher). We do not knowingly use cookies to collect personal data from children, and we do not use cookies to profile children or to target them with marketing.

12. Changes to this Policy

12.1  We review this Policy and Annex A at least every 6 months, and whenever we change the cookies or providers we use. The “Last Updated” date at the top shows when this Policy was last changed.

12.2  If we make a material change, such as adding a new category of cookie or a new purpose, we will update this Policy and Annex A, tell you through the cookie banner or a notice on the Website and, for waitlist members, by email, and ask for your consent again where required, before the change takes effect.

13. Contact and complaints

13.1  If you have questions about this Policy or our use of cookies, contact legal@umojacoin.com, or write to UmojaTech Inc., 55th Street East, SL55 Building, 21st Floor, Office 3, Panama City, Republic of Panama. For help with the cookie banner or the Website, contact support@umojacoin.com.

13.2  You have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country. A list of authorities is set out in Section 19 of our Website Privacy Policy.
